Joe Matson

oey “Joe” Matson, 43, of Onaga, died Friday, April 3, 2009.

He was born January 19, 1966 at Axtell, the son of Dale and Deloris Lesslie Matson. He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1984 and Cloud County Community College.  He was a member of the Frankfort High School football team that won the 1A State Championship in 1983. 

Joe worked for Wanklyn Oil Co. in Frankfort and later moved to Onaga to operate the Onaga Oil Co. He then built, owned and operated the Railroad Depot and also owned and operated Bugs-Be-Gone Exterminators, both in Onaga.

He was a member of the Vermillion United Methodist Church, the Onaga Lions Club, the FFA Alumni Association, was a Hunters Safety Instructor, coached softball and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. He was a former member of the Happy Go Lucky 4-H Club in Vermillion.

He married Joyce Bazer on September 26, 1998 at Havensville, they were divorced.

Survivors include one daughter, Kimber Matson, Onaga; a special friend, Laura Bottom, Havensville, and her children, Alicia Koenigs and husband Craig, and Michael; three brothers Tommy Matson and wife Rheta, Vermillion, Larry Matson and wife Karen, Onaga, and Corey Matson and fiancee Barbara, Edgewood, New Mexico; three nephews Jason Matson, Dan Matson and Brian Matson, a niece, Leslie Pralle and many relatives and friends.
